New Parking for Hatfield Town Centre
Work is now complete on this new 420-space multi-storey car park within the town centre of Hatfield, Hertfordshire. We’re delighted to be providing the building control service for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. The layout and design of the car park is split over four floors. Including 18 disabled spaces, 10 parent/child spaces, and 8 electric vehicle charging bays. Located on the previous existing car park, it features iconic aircraft designs, symbolic of Hatfield’s proud aviation heritage.
Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is contributing £4.8m from the Local Growth Fund towards the cost of the car park. Adam Wood, head of infrastructure and regeneration at Hertfordshire LEP, said:
“Our £4.8m investment will unlock land in Hatfield town centre for redevelopment. Helping strengthen its offering to benefit the local community and businesses for years to come. This work forms part of our wider £6m programme of support to ensure the town is ready to meet the opportunities of the future..”
The multi-storey ‘The Common’ car park in Hatfield won an award for council partners Bourne Parking and Brightspace Architects at the British Parking Awards Sept 2021!
The car park came top in the Special Projects category! As well as being nominated in the Best Car Park category.
Managing Director of partners Bourne Parking, Karl Butters, said:
“It was great to receive national recognition for the Common Hatfield new multi-storey car park at the British Parking Awards. Congratulations to the whole Bourne parking team and special thanks to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for making this happen. A fantastic achievement – well done all”.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Tony Kingsbury, said:
“Since reopening in March the Common car park has already been awarded the prestigious Park Mark by the British parking association. Now our partners Bourne Parking and Brightside Architects have rightly been lauded for a design and layout that perfectly blends the past and the future! Featuring our aviation heritage with the iconic aircraft designs along its exterior, and plenty of electric charging points for our residents.”
